Waterfalls and beaches

These are the very places where locals usually bring their families and guests for picnic as well as for bathing and swimming, especially during Sundays.

Eastern Visayas, composed of islands and islets, boasts of several good beaches with crystal clear waters. Its rugged interiors also offers many beautiful waterfalls, which flows into natural or man-made pools below that are suitable for bathing or swimming.

During the summer months, these beaches and waterfalls are filled with people who are escaping from the sweltering heat of the sun.

Ronald Ricafort, acting tourism officer of Calbayog City in Samar province, disclosed that the city government of Calbayog would be developing both the Malajog Beach and the Bangon Falls to attract for people to these places.

I’ve met Ronald recently and he told me that Malajog and Bangon are old-time favorite destinations but these places have long been neglected resulting in the erosion of roads leading to these tourist spots and that repair and improvement are now needed.

We plan to construct concrete roads and parking areas as well as put up clean toilets in these places, he said.

In Calbiga town, also in Samar, the poblacion is far from the seacoast that locals usually go swimming in the Calbiga River. Many, however, would bring their visitors to the Lulugayan Falls, – dubbed as a mini-Niagara Falls – located about 18 kilometers upstream from the poblacion.

Many of the towns and cities in Eastern Visayas have both the beaches and waterfalls in thir area while others either have a good beach or a magnificent waterfalls.

Admittedly, I have never been to many good beaches and waterfalls in Eastern Visayas.

But I’ve been to Hinunangan town that boasts of an 8 kilometers stretch of silvery brown fine sand beaches; to the Tangkaan Beach in Padre Burgos,Southern Leyte; to the island municipality of Limasawa, which has several white-sand beaches, among other places in Southern Leyte.

In Tacloban City, of course I’ve been to the Baluarte beach. The city also has several good beaches to offer like the beaches in San Jose district and at Dio island.

In Leyte, however, I’ve not been yet to the fine-sand whte beaches of Kalanggaman Island in Palompon town, the Canigao Island in Matalom town and the Cuatro Islas in Inopacan and Hindang towns. These islands are the top beach destinations in Leyte, which also has several other good beaches as well as waterfalls to offer.

Biliran also has many good beaches and waterfalls. Among its beautiful beaches are located in Maripipi, Almeria, Kawayan and Naval towns. The waterfalls can be found in Caibiran, Almeria and Cabucgayan, among other places.

Samar island, composed of the provinces of Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar, has many good beaches especially in places facing the Pacific Ocean, and many waterfalls in its rugged interior.

In Eastern Visayas, beach holidays and a visit to the waterfalls are some of the activities being offered to tourists.
